Group Home Foundation, Inc. Builds Bridges for People with Disabilities. Incorporated in 1975 as a private non-profit agency assisting adults diagnosed with cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, GHF, Inc. was founded on the vision of Erma Estes. Today, we continue our mission to support adults with disabilities, assisting them to live and work in the community. One of the largest employers, located in Belfast, Maine, GHF, Inc.’s comprehensive programs serve a wide variety of living and working needs of many adults in Waldo County. Compassionate and professional employees work as a team with individuals, family members and other professionals to set and review goals and expectations that empower individuals to learn, grow, and contribute.
Community Connections at GHF, Inc. is a Community Resource Center that enables people with intellectual disabilities to live at their highest level of independence. Our Community Support Program offers a variety of choices depending on the needs of the individual…educational activities, social interaction, volunteering or working in the community, learning life skills, occupational therapy…enriching an individual by supporting their self reliance, safety and sense of purpose. Community Connections offers Home Support for Independent Living, teaching skills and offering assistance to enable self sufficiency. Work Support for Earning and Learning helps people obtain and maintain a job within the community that matches their interests, skills, and abilities, while providing individualized training in the areas of work ethics, safety, social and personal skills.
Little River Apparel Manufacturing at GHF, Inc. was started by Group Home Foundation in 1997 to provide more employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Located in the Belfast Business Park, LRA manufactures high quality military apparel products. Made possible through the JWOD act, the government supports organizations that serve people with significant disabilities.
GHF, Inc. has Four Residential Living Opportunities in Belfast. A five unit apartment building houses those who need minimal assistance. The three group living homes are staffed twenty-four hours per day, each providing a family-like environment focusing on a safe place for daily living that enhance an individual’s pursuit of independence. Residents work on areas of living, social and community integration, and developing and maintaining relationships with friends and family members. Individual choice is encouraged.
